The Spider Grills Venom Temperature Controller requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to connect. It does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
Why does this matter? Most modern home routers broadcast both a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz network. These are two different frequencies with different characteristics. The Venom is designed to work with 2.4 GHz only. Attempting to connect to a 5 GHz network will fail.
How to check which frequency you are connected to: On your phone, go to your Wi-Fi settings and look at your connected network. Some routers label their networks separately (e.g., "MyNetwork_2.4G" and "MyNetwork_5G"). Others combine both frequencies under one name.
If your router uses one name for both frequencies (band steering): Your phone may automatically connect to the 5 GHz band, which will prevent the Venom from connecting. To fix this, log into your router's settings and either:
Separate the two bands into different network names, then connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz network before pairing the Venom, or
Contact your internet service provider for help disabling band steering.
If you are not sure which frequency your network uses: Contact Spider Grills customer support through the help widget on our website, and we can help walk you through the troubleshooting process.
